Frequently Asked Questions

Do you practice Bikram yoga at Breathe?
The hot yoga classes at Breathe are not Bikram yoga. However, we do draw from the same Bishnu Ghosh lineage. We have been heavily influenced by Tony Sanchez who espouses careful technique and open-minded self exploration to create a balanced and effective life-long yoga practice. At Breathe, we encourage our teachers to find their own unique teaching style rather than rigidly adhering to a scripted dialogue.
Why don't I feel hot while practicing yoga at Breathe?
If you don't feel overheated while practicing it probably means your body's cooling system is working properly. The minimum temperate at Breathe is 85 degrees, not exactly chilly.
Do you offer vinyasa flow classes at Breathe?
Yes. At Breathe, we have worked with Travis Boothe to develop a flowing (vinyasa) yoga series we call Cali Yoga. Cali Yoga is great for building upper body strength while working dynamic flexibility through safe, anatomically correct range of motion.
I am totally inflexible. Will I be able to do this class?
Yes. No matter what your level of flexibility you will gradually begin to lengthen your muscles and increase your body's range of motion.
Why am I not sweating during hot yoga class at Breathe?
Just because you are not dripping sweat does not mean you are not sweating. The body's cooling system relies on sweat turning to water vapor. If sweat remains on your body or falls onto the floor it is not being used to cool you. Efficient cooling takes place when sweat evaporates as it is produced, thereby immediately transferring heat out of your body and into the surrounding air.
Why is Breathe not as hot as some other hot yoga studios?
At Breathe we feel it more beneficial to focus on the physical challenge of the yoga practice rather than on surviving a super-heated room. If you do not feel challenged while practicing yoga you may not be working as hard as you could. We've had amazing success improving our yoga practice by turning down the temperature a little. It allows us to put more energy into training and less into surviving the heat.
Do I have to be "in shape" to do this class?
No. No matter your level of fitness a regular yoga practice will help to strengthen and reshape your body into a longer, leaner and more symmetric version of itself.
